Biblia Hebraica Quinta (BHQ) On the initiative of the United Bible Societies, and with the sponsorship of the German Bible Society which has special responsibility for the publication of scientific editions, the first fascicles of a new edition of Biblia Hebraica Quinta (BHQ) are now reaching publication.
This edition will succeed the Biblia Hebraica Stuttgartensia (BHS). The aim is to provide an edition with a completely new critical apparatus to the Hebrew (Masoretic) text, accompanied by a commentary volume in which the most difficult cases are treated.
Currently only the books of Ruth and Megilloth (Five Scrolls) and a series introduction are available (The Megilloth volume is available from the American Bible Society: www.bibles.com.). Other fascicles are in preparation by an international and inter-confessional team of scholars. The complete edition should be complete by 2010.
This is a manual edition (edition minor), in the Biblia Hebraica tradition, produced for serious students of the Hebrew Bible. It aims to provide them with a clear presentation of the surviving evidence of the text's transmission that is relevant for translation and exegesis.Below is an excellent article on the origins and progress of the BHQ Hebrew bible: Biblia Hebraica Quinta and the Making of Critical Editions of the Hebrew Bible by Richard D.
